Exploring Garrettsville
It was the first day off I’d had with my best friend and roommate in a long time, so that meant it was time for a Magical Adventure Day! What are magical adventures for us? We usually have a goal(s) in mind, and then what happens happens as we accomplish that goal(s). Well, it was mostly just for fun this time. I’d never been to Garrettesville even though it’s not far from us and Ripley had only been once a very long time ago. We also wanted to go to an antique shop to test out Ripley’s new Geiger counter on some uranium glass and maybe find some other goodies. So, first we went to our favorite antique mall nearby and was NOT disappointed! Not only did we fine some beautiful uranium glassware, but also a radium painted dial clock!
After that, we stopped at this place to eat that we always pass when we’re heading to places south or southeast of us, but never had the chance to stop at. It always seemed busy, so we wondered if it was good. It’s an odd looking place. Turns out, it was delicious! Never did I expect I’d be getting a handmade 1/2 pound burger (that’s their normal size!) with fresh cut fries! I was so full but omg it was incredible! Then, it was on to Garrettesville.
Garrettesville is a beautiful small town. Unfortunately, by the time we got there, everything was closed except for places to eat. It made me sad to see that all the shops in town closed at 5. We definitely want to go back when some of them are open to look around because some of them looked very intriguing.
The park behind the downtown area, however, is always open and it’s a beautiful walking path that lets you see the mill and the creek. It was very serene back there and almost like you weren’t in a town at all. I really see the appeal of the small town I always hear so much about.
I also learned two fun facts while I was there.
Fact 1: The creator of lifesavers was born there and came up with the idea for them there.
Fact 2: The last big train robbery occurred there and J. Edgar Hoover himself was the one who made the final arrest after chasing the band of thieves around the country!
